Remote Receiver and Antennas

Moisture, power loss, and receiver LED behavior can all point to problems in the receiver path.

Like the rev counter board, the remote receiver and antennas can malfunction due to moisture, and sometimes merely drying the board out and preventing further water intrusion fixes the problem.

Check control-board power first

To test this component, remove the cover of the control box so the main control board is visible. It is important that the main voltages on the control board have been checked before focusing on this component.

The control board should power up normally and will often beep at startup, indicating that the control board is powered up and ready. If this is not the case, do not waste time and money troubleshooting this component.

The proper voltage needs to be supplied to it by the main control board, so if that is not the case, the following tests will surely indicate that the remote receiver is not working.

Receiver LED behavior matters

If, and only if, the main control board is powering up properly, look for the receiver LED on the main control board. When the remote is pressed, the receiver LED will light up.

Important: the light must be solid, not blinking and not intermittent while the remote is pressed.

If the light is intermittent and the function of the actual remote has been verified, it very well could be the remote receiver board that has failed.

With a good understanding of electricity, additional testing procedures will be provided later in a detailed troubleshooting guide.

As previously noted, the main control board provides the power for the remote receiver, so if the main control board power has not been completely verified, the remote receiver may in fact be fine and the problem may actually lie in the main control board.
